Beautiful Venice

In general I find Italy a wonderful country to visit, I have been in Rome two times, and I'm totally in love with this city.
Venice is something very different from anything else. The city exist of small narrow streets, beautiful bridges and a lot of canals. When visiting Venice you will use the most of your time on walking up and down, and get a bit lost in the city. It seems hard to get around, but mostly because you think the city is bigger than it actually is. But a good idea is to get yourself a map. You see no cars during your stay in Venice, which is quite cool - everything take place on the canals - and we saw a DHL boat, police boat and a ambulance. Very charming.
The city has one big canal called Canal Grande, which goes all the way through the city. Here you can take a boat and sail on the canal while enjoying the beautiful houses. But make sure you take the boat in the right direction - we started in one end of the city, got on a boat and ended up sailing all the way around the city - instead of through it via Canal Grande - which was quite boring.
You can also take one the famous gondolas and travel on the small canals - but it's mostly something which is only there for tourism and very expensive, we didn't have any need to try it - but if it's something you fancy, then they are usually easy to find.

Venice is like the city of beautiful masks. I tell you, there is these carnival masks EVERYWHERE. They are very beautiful, and I mostly wanted to buy all of them - but they are quite expensive most of them. But I couldn't resist and in the end I returned home with two beautiful ones. When you have through a lot of these stores, you find out there is a great different between the masks of good quality (which are mostly the expensive ones) and the cheep ones. In some of the mask-shops, they have a workshop and can see the craftsmen creating the masks.
I wouldn't say Venice is the place for shopping for clothes. Most of their stores are with expensive brands. But as most places in Italy, it's a great place to buy luxurious pasta, ham, oil, cheese... Everything very expensive if you compare it to our prices in Denmark. We went to a marked called Rialto marked, which lies on the western side of Rialto bridge. They had a lot of delicious vegetables and fruits. - White asparagus, sundried tomatoes, dried chilli and small artichokes.

As always, you can never complain about the wonderful food in Italy. In Venice it's possible to get a lot of fresh nice fish and shellfish. One of the dishes you can get, is pasta with cuttlefish - which includes a lot of ink and results in a black teeth, black tongue and black lips when eating it.
Our no.1 favourite restaurant is called "Trattoria Alla Rivetta" - you can't reserve a table, and usually have to wait for 30-45 minutes. But the mood in the restaurant is amazing and the man in bar will give you a glass of wine for free while waiting, and some maybe some grilled fish and chocolate for the kids. The food is really nice and the place has a great atmosphere. - So good we visited the place twice.
